Geranium

Pelargonium odorantissimum

Geraniaceae

Origin: Algeria, Réunion, Madagascar and Guinea.

There are now more than twenty genera and over 700 different species of the geranium family. Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum), a common British variety, has certain properties comparable to those of P. odorantissimum.

Parts used: the whole plant in an infusion; also the essential oil obtained by steam distillation. The Ancients regarded it as a quite exceptional vulnerary with the power to mend fractures and eliminate cancers.

Principal known constituents: resin, gallic tannin, essential oil: geraniol, citronellol, linalol, terpineol and alcohol.
